Workforce of tomorrow

Dimitris Kokkaliaris

2018-07-26 15:18:14.877934

On Wednesday 11th of July, Lenovo organized a special event on Onassis Cultural Center with main topic of discussion The workforce and workplace of the future. Our CEO, John Doxaras was among the lecturers of that interesting event along with Dimitris Kalavros – Gousiou, Founder & Curator of TedxAthens & Velocity Partners VC and Dimitris Pefanis, General Manager insider.gr.

John Doxaras, explained that the way that companies operate nowadays is pretty different in contrast to the past. A good example, is that during the previous decades people were working for a company for many years. This is not happening anymore! Imagine a football team. They sign up players for 2-3 years and in the end of their contract, both team and the player evaluate some parameters like, whether they are happy or not, if there’s a good communication between them and above all if both parties feel that they can gain from each other.

“The most important thing that employees have to do for their employers is to guide them. Through conversation, employers can explain what exactly they expect from their employees and how the second ones will be rewarded as the time progresses”, John Doxaras pointed out during his speech. Communication, constitutes a crucial factor for the relationships among the staff. John Doxaras, estimated that until 2020 more than 50% of workforce will be millenials, so working habits are going to change.

Among others, Dimitris Kalavros – Gousiou, Founder & Curator of TedxAthens & Velocity Partners VC mentioned that, we live in a new working era. The way that companies and people work is pretty different. Nowadays, workforce is called digital nomads. But what does it mean? People are used to working wherever they want whenever they want. This method seems to make both parties happy. Employer is not obligated to go in the office early morning. He can relax home and work alongside. So far, this tactic seems to effects better in people’s working behavior.

In the sequel, Dimitris Pefanis, General Manager of Insider.gr talked about the influences of technology in the journalism workplaces nowadays. Making a historical retrospective, Dimitris Pefanis compared journalists of past with journalists of today. Some years ago, journalists were running in order to find news, writing them in white papers. Things changed! People can find news easily and all they need is a laptop. Laptop is journalist’s working tool. So, technology has a huge impact on journalism – and of course not only in journalism – as time goes by. All, people have to do is to adapt in changes of technology.

Workforces and workplaces have nothing to do with the past. Technology penetrates in the way people behave in their workplaces day after day. And all we can do is to conform to these changes. Keeping in mind that, it’s easy to understand that workforces will not be the same again. Workforce is going to be younger and the main reason is that, millenials are digital natives, which means that are much more familiar to technology.
