10th PyData by Warply: The Rise of Chatbots in Financial Services

Warply brings "PyData Meetup" to Athens, a series of events for developers and executives interested in learning about software, innovation, new technology solutions and services. In this context, the 10th PyData Athens Meetup will take place on the 5th of June at the BCA College (Alexandras Avenue 205), located in the heart of Athens!

The main speaker of this event is Alex Michael, Co-founder & CTO at Plum, who will briefly describe how one is able to build a chatbot for finance and if it is a good idea in doing so. We'll take a look at Plum's chatbot adventures in the last 3 years – what worked, what didn't work, and what they should have done better. Plum, founded in 2016 by Victor Trokoudes and Alex Michael, is described as an AI-powered online money management tool. Plum’s pioneering technology brings together AI and behavioural economics to help people manage their finances and their savings effortlessly.

Many brands have incorporated chatbots into their customer services. The growing popularity of smart speakers like Amazon's Echo devices that rely on AI and natural-language processing (NLP) technologies to handle chats aids to familiarize millions of people with conversational commerce. Retail sales from chatbot-based interactions are forecast to almost double every year to $112 billion by 2023 from $7.3 billion this year, per an estimate by Juniper Research. But chatbot usage is still somewhat limited. A survey from Voxpro found that 68% of consumers still haven't used chatbots to contact a brand, and that 56% haven't used chat or automated features, because they prefer experiences with real people.
